The Owl House TV Series 2020 2023 Full Cast & Crew

king the owl house

Following Eda's capture at the hands of Lilith Clawthorne and the Emperor's Coven, King was ready to join Luz on heading back to rescue her. They eventually team up with a reformed Lilith and work together to free Eda. King even convinces Eda that Lilith had changed for the better and that she was willingly giving up her place in the coven to help her. After Luz frees Eda and Lilith splits the curse between her and her sister, King once again shows his support for her friends. In the final show, King is a small, short canine/feline-like creature with dark gray fur and gray underbelly and tail tip.

Luz Noceda

He wears a red collar with a round light golden tag and a dinosaur like skull with horns (one broken, which is later glued back on in "Echoes of the Past") covering his face. She found him on a mysterious island while escaping from the Emperor's Coven, and took him with her to the Owl House. King believes himself to be better than Eda by title and is not afraid to go up against her to prove himself as seen in "I Was a Teenage Abomination". He hates admitting that he was wrong about anything to her as it would give her bragging rights. Due to his small body, he is usually found being held like an infant by her, showing that they are at least close. In "Eda's Requiem", King legally becomes Eda's adopted son, showing that he does look up to her in a maternal way.

Eda Clawthorne

When Lilith questions his identity as the king of demons, King attempts to prove his claims by taking Luz, Lilith, and Hooty to his "kingdom". The visit ends with the coming of a strange creature trying to hurt the quartet, but Eda shows up and allows the quartet to flee while she holds it off. Devastated by the truth, King flees into the jungle and Luz later finds him on the beach, having come to terms with the fact that he is nobody. Luz manages to convince him that there are still things he can really know about himself in the temple. Escaping the creature once more, the group arrives at the room where King once hatched. Putting his horn back on, King finally remembers the sounds he heard inside his egg and that the creature was actually his guardian.

Physical appearance

King has a domineering personality and always has a mighty opinion of himself. He seems to suffer from a form of Napoleon Complex as much of his behavior stems from him wanting to be seen as above others. He can be mildly irritable and occasionally gives a passive-aggressive demeanor.

Other appearances

She dubbed him "King", due to his interest in ruling subjects, and invented a story for him, which he took to heart. Not wanting to be taken as a fool or a helpless creature, he had successfully convinced himself that this was the truth and laughed or ridiculed those who denied his belief. King is shocked at the appearance of Luz, not because she is a human, but because her first instinct was to run up and cuddle him, which frightens him to no end.

Season Three

King was forced to free the Collector in order to stop the Draining Spell, so to get him to help, he convinced the Collector to play "Owl House". After the Collector stopped the draining spell, King was forced to be his playmate. In "Edge of the World", King thinks he's found his family when he, Luz, and Hooty, are transported to the other side of the world.

He held his broken horn and recalled that he heard a roar that meant son. King initially found Luz scary upon their first meeting, but has since accepted her. King refers to Luz as his servant, yet knows deep down that she will in no way serve him. Luz clearly adores him for his cute appearance, yet he accepts this as her way of "worshiping" him. In "Really Small Problems", King begins displaying doglike affection towards Luz, missing her when she is away at Hexside and wanting to have something of hers at all times.

Season One

The small infant proceeded to make use of his new home by creating "subjects" (rock figures) and having a "glorious" feast (actually just bugs). One day, he was found by Eda Clawthorne, who was trying to escape the Emperor's Coven. Finding him adorable and believing he was all alone, she "rescued" him from the creature, but he broke his horn during the escape; causing him to lose some of his memory. Upon returning to Eda's home, she began to care for him like a pet, until she learned that he was capable of speaking.

Season One

King is also shown to be lazy, often lying around the house napping instead of working, and at times must be forced or blackmailed to do work, much to his annoyance. It is implied that him trying to regain his kingly status might be so that he can have an excuse to get out of doing menial labor. He relies on accessories meant for babies, such as high chairs and carriers. King keeps a lot of plush toys that he claims are his subjects and tries to take over the playground.

Once back home now wanting to find his father, King engraves the temple symbols on his necklace while Luz permanently reattaches the horn half with glue. He also brought the now-inactive guardian creature (which he named Jean-Luc) back to the Owl House with him, despite everyone except Hooty voting against this. About eight or nine years prior, the creature who would later be known as King, was resting in his egg, but was disturbed by a strange commotion happening outside. Being small, sleepy and not fully developed, he hoped that the sound would go away and continued to rest. He had heard a strange roar, that he interpreted as "son", and finally hatched from his egg. Small and confused by his new surroundings, he was picked up by a strange amorphous creature who watched over him in a strange tower.

However, he is shocked to learn that the demons who look like him, are in fact witches. Their tribe is responsible for the complete destruction of every Titan, except for King, who learns he's the last of his kind. He is the diminutive sidekick of Eda, who at the start of the series believed he was the so-called "King of Demons" and that he was trapped in a small, cute, fluffy body. He often acts like a monarch, treating people and stuffed animals as minions, ordering others to tremble at his feet and loves to act bigger than he really is.

However, as the series progresses, he begins to soften and has started to lower his defenses more. In truth, he actually wants to be loved and appreciated by those around him, especially from Luz whom he has platonic feelings for. King Clawthorne is one of the deuteragonists of the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House. He is a young Titan who claims to be a former ruler, yet displays childlike mannerisms.

However, due to being so cute and small, he gets the opposite reaction towards people. Instead of fearing him they adore him with a lot of unwanted affection which annoys him.

Design Styles Across 10 Decades Envato Tuts+

graphic design styles

A graphic design style is a cohesive visual language designers adopt to convey their message or evoke specific emotions. It's like a unique fingerprint that distinguishes one designer's work from another. Created in the 1890s, it’s a result of Western artists trying to create a style they could call their own, which with the fast increase of global trading, could be promoted more easily. The style is identified by its lengthy organic lines, often used to animals, plants, and delicate objects, creating an ornamental and beautifully decorative effect. The typography used in this style follows similar principles, with a heavy use of natural-looking serifs, and looping shapes that complement the graphical elements. Every organization needs someone who can help tell their story with visual elements, that is where the service of a graphic designer is needed.

graphic design styles

Art Deco

This graphic design style works well with animation and it’s the most popular in digital spaces like websites, mobile apps, and video games. The Pop Art style emerged in the 1950s as a reaction against abstract expressionism. This style utilizes bold colors, thick lines, and distorted shapes to create designs that are fun and playful. Popularized by artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, this style is perfect for creating attention-grabbing illustrations and posters.

Feminine Illustration Design

Visual identity graphic designers collaborate with brand authorities to design business assets like image libraries, logos, color palettes, business cards, and typography. Today the designs that are powerful and versatile enough to make a business achieve its marketing goals may not be trending tomorrow. The retro graphic design style is a style of design that has been influenced by trends from the past.

The designs are all about angles, lines, circles and other different shapes along with their heavy usage, throughout the frame. This is another category of the minimalistic look that requires very less usage of colors with eye-pleasing aesthetics and color schemes. It is different to the concepts of luxurious and highly decorative illustrations that form the most plain platform of messaging.

Minimalist and Flat

Futurism was an art and social movement developed in the early 20th century in Italy. This movement was largely against not just classical antiques but everything that was generally not new. Though it majorly started in Italy and was a concept developed by Italians, there were also parallel movements of futurism in England, Russia, and other parts of the world. Arts and Crafts were essential anti-industrial and mainly advocated economic and social reform.

Graphic design can communicate ideas

Most corporate designs are relatively conservative and risk-averse, as most companies are reluctant to scare away potential customers by using unconventional design elements. Color palettes typically include white, black, and one or two other bold colors. Victorian graphic design is an ornate, busy style that usually bursts with content, with shapes, borders, characters and letters filling the entire image. This reflects the style of Victorian Brits (especially royalty), who preferred everything to be opulent and gilded, and can still be seen in royal palaces today. Lines are created by the elements themselves, without the use of black borders, and they’re mostly straight with the exception of some curved edges. If you think of the punk and gothic movements, you’ll get somewhat of an idea of this graphic design theme.

The History of Graphic Design: From Cave Paintings to AI Art

It’s almost forceful, demanding that you give it a look—a valuable trick in today’s distracted world, when you want your website or advertisement to shine through. Its intense shapes, highly-contrasting colour schemes, and bold typography has made it one of the most recognisable design styles in history. “Retro” graphic design refers to a broad range of design styles from the 1950s to 1970s. This includes Psychedelic, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Gothic, Baroque, the New York style, and 60s and 70s design, each with clearly distinct styles that would rarely be mistaken for each other. The phenomena of psychedelic design, art and music is synonymous with the 1960s and 1970s. It influenced and was influenced by the style of dress, philosophy, literature and culture of the time, while holding sway over the design culture throughout the decade.

Pro Designers

If you’d like to read more on this subject, check out our article on graphic design trends for 2023. If something has been designed with strong geometric shapes, bold colours, and plenty of symmetry, there’s a good chance it’s in the Art Deco style. Retro design styles can spark nostalgia, thrusting the viewer to an earlier period of their life where they might have felt a strong sense of belonging or meaning. This sentimentality can evoke a feel-good reaction, and work well in commercial uses like branding or advertising.

Modern

By removing unnecessary or distracting elements, artists can direct attention to exactly where it’s needed. Along with the Dutch De Stijl and the Swiss International graphic style developed in the 1950s, Bauhaus still influences contemporary design. A famous example of a brand that clearly borrowed from the movement is Beats, with its recognizable logo and website that uses an asymmetric grid.

It combines art and technology to create visual representations of ideas and messages for both print and digital media. Through the use of color, imagery, typography, and layout, graphic designers can convey a message to their audience in an effective and visually appealing way. Now, it’s time to explore the popular graphic design styles that have been around for ages. These styles are so iconic that they have influenced various industries, from fashion to advertising. Understanding them will give you an edge in creating designs that stand the test of time.

At the start of the 1940s, realist illustrations which romanticized battle were very popular, but by the end of the decade, consumers were ready for something very different. But what about concepts or products that are a bit more difficult to depict realistically or in engaging ways? While some may see this as an obstacle, graphic designers thrive in such situations. This design style was influenced by the styles of dress, philosophy, literature, and culture of the time while controlling the design culture throughout the decade. This design style was prominent in band and concert posters of the 1960s and 1970s. Art Nouveau possesses bold hand-drawn and natural lines and shapes which makes it look whimsical, romantic, and highly technical.

Different styles can affect viewers in different ways, so choosing the right style for the message you want to communicate is important. This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it’s enough to get you familiarized with the world of design. One of the core aspects of Material Design is the use of subtle shadows, depth, and motion to provide a natural and interactive feel to the interface elements. Elements are layered with realistic drop shadows, giving a sense of depth and elevation, making them appear as if they are floating above the background. This visual cue helps users understand the hierarchy and relationships between elements, guiding them through the app or website effortlessly.

Punk, Disco and the hippy movement were just a few of the cultural trends which defined the decade, and their influence spilled over into the world of design. An idea gaining popularity both in people’s aesthetic preferences and lifestyle choices, minimalism is a graphic design style any professional needs to know about. It also uses aerodynamic shapes, Egyptian zigzags, rich contrasting colors, motion lines, and the geometric treatment of patterns and surfaces. Art Deco styles exercise the use of illustrations and graphic representations of everyday objects and can be found in old car show posters, period comic books, movie posters, and book covers. When creating a Victorian-style graphic design, it is important to remember that the main goal is to create something that feels sophisticated and timeless. Therefore, try to incorporate classic elements such as scrolls, flourishes, and frames to achieve this.

Though they can sometimes look disorganized or even chaotic, abstract designs are created with rules and intention. Employing the rule of thirds, it juxtaposes forms, shapes, and color to turn concrete ideas into unstructured concepts. Whether it’s a 3D rendering of a product or an abstract 3D background, this trend adds depth and dimension to your designs and creates a unique visual experience for your viewers. At the heart of experimental typography lies a fusion of artistry and technology, which encourages designers from the conventional constraints of static lettering. Kinetic typography, for instance, breathes life into words and sentences, infusing them with motion and rhythm. As letters dance, twist, and contort, they transform into dynamic entities, amplifying the intended message and resonating with viewers profoundly. Kinetic typography excels in various creative fields, from video production and advertising to user interface design, leaving a lasting impact on audiences and elevating the storytelling experience. Postmodern graphic design became a melting pot of influences, blending elements from different eras, cultures, and artistic movements. It emphasised juxtaposition and contradiction, giving birth to unique and unexpected design solutions.

The style's hallmark is its distinctive use of geometric shapes, bold colours, and lavish ornamentation, resulting in an abundant visual feast that seduced the senses. This captivating design language reverberated through every facet of life, becoming an intrinsic part of the Jazz Age zeitgeist. Because this is a competitive field, exploring a variety of styles is a great way to find a way to carve out a space for yourself. Designers often challenge or revamp old styles, experiment with new tools, and flow with (or against) broader design trends. Originating in Switzerland in the 1940s, Swiss style design has concurrently been referred to as the International Typographic Style or the International Style.

Cutting-edge graphic design styles, such as experimental typography, continually challenge the status quo and inspire other designers to push the boundaries of their creativity. Innovation in design drives the field's evolution and leads to exciting new possibilities for visual communication. As designers experiment and break new ground, they inspire others to follow suit, contributing to a dynamic and ever-evolving design community. While the heyday of psychedelic art may have waned as the counterculture movement subsided, its influence still reverberates in contemporary design.

Examples of User Interface and Web Designs

Futurism influenced many modern art movements of the 20th century which also saw the development of the contemporary design style. This design style often implements font types such as Sans Serif fonts, including SF, Helvetica, and Futura. Very little content is included with this type of graphic design style, so as to preserve the simplistic, clean look that minimalism is defined by. Three-dimensional (3D) design is the art of giving objects depth, length, and breadth through computer software. Not to be confused with skeuomorphism, 3D plays with weight, lighting, and shadows to give designs dimension and a lifelike feel. 3D isn’t a new concept, but advancing technology is upping its realism and quality.

Product Design

These are some of the types of graphic design you’re likely to hear about as you explore this field—but you’ll also notice that these job descriptions have some overlap. Like many professionals, graphic designers can use their skills in a variety of roles depending on which company or industry they work for. In some industries, it will be of great advantage if motion graphic designers know coding, 3D modeling, and marketing. Motion graphic design is a new niche for designers, not many people are found in that space yet. Animations are now formally used in TV shows and movies, thereby reducing production costs and time. This knowledge will help them in creating unique visual representations of a brand's identity, and also create designs that appeal to different visual media.

We see the use of bright and clashing colours, illegible hand-drawn curvaceous type, abstracted curvilinear shapes and metaphysical or surreal illustrative or photographic subject matter. The psychedelic design style harbours the influence of Art Nouveau designs, particularly in the hand-drawn type and consistent use of images depicting women or the female form. Josef Müller-Brockmann is amongst the most celebrated graphic designers of the 20th Century.

At the time, grunge was a countermovement that rejected convention and conformity, and the design style does the same. Distressed textures, asymmetrical shapes, dark colors — grunge design is moody and unruly, and sometimes it even elicits feelings of angst. Grunge elements typically have an unevenness about them, which gives designs a rough finish. The Mid-Century Modern style emerged in the 1950s and focuses on simplicity, functionality, and minimalism. This style often features bright colors and clean lines, making it perfect for creating designs for home decor and fashion. In fact, you can see this style everywhere nowadays, from IKEA catalogs to Mad Men-inspired branding.

With our team of experienced designers and marketing professionals, we are dedicated to creating custom solutions that elevate your brand and leave a lasting impression on your target audience. As experimental typography challenges the status quo, it sparks fresh conversations and pushes the limits of what typography can achieve. By blending technology and design expertise, creators forge connections between the digital and physical realms, generating captivating and interactive experiences that profoundly captivate audiences. This transformative approach encourages viewers to engage with typography in new ways, fostering a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind even the most straightforward letters.

In America, a booming economy meant that ordinary homes now had kitchen appliances, motor cars, and televisions, all of which were advertised heavily to the public. Across commercial advertising we see atmospheric, cheerful illustrations and photos in pastel ice-cream shades or Technicolor brights. The sense of movement, youth and excitement generated by this style of image is infectious, and still has remarkable influence over advertising design today. We can see the roots of the Mid-Century Modern movement in design and illustration from late 1940s graphic design. Visible brush strokes, witty designs and rich colours marked the end of the dark days of war and heralded a sunnier Post-War period. The Great Depression had a sombre influence over 1930s graphic design, with a more restrained form of Art Deco which focussed on curved forms replacing the glitter and glamour of the decade before.

Exposing yourself to examples of good graphic design is a healthy practice no matter who you are. There are a lot of amazing design studios, designers and illustrators hailing from California. Patterned paper, wide satin ribbons, and clear tie-ons make this understated color scheme holiday-ready. Choose patterns of paper with coordinated colors that are not perfect matches for a casual yet crafty and creative giftwrap, and focus more on matching your ribbon shades. These understated gift packages look anything but boring when arranged under your tree. Make your wrapped Christmas packages Pinterest-level-pretty by attaching small tokens to each gift. Some suggested adornments include bells, small ornaments, sprigs of evergreen, glittery snowflakes and holly.

Let the Tree Tell Your Story

Pictured above, the holiday host displays faux cardinal ornaments on top of a rustic holiday basket of treats. The baskets will then be given as parting gifts to departing guests. You can customize your own goodie bags with containers and treats that compliment your holiday decor. Try metallic boxes filled with chocolate truffles to match elegant decor, or cellophane bags with colorful candies for a children's Christmas party. Magnolia garland is one of the most traditional elements in all Southern Christmas decorating.

Line Your Bookshelves With Décor

Disguise those unsightly wires from string lights by winding them around a column or post with Christmas greenery or garland. Personalize the garland by attaching spray-painted pinecones and metallic ornaments with fishing line. Finally, set out a pretty container of ornamental cabbage or kale at the base. To add an additional pop of color, a potted Poinsettia also looks great.

Mini Wooden Christmas Trees

We chose a glass lantern with a brass finish; but any lanterns will do. Choose natural elements such as holly berries and eucalyptus sprigs, instead of candles, to fill the lanterns with scenes of a Christmas forest. Try to vary the lengths of each ribbon, and space them far enough apart so that a passing breeze won't knock them together. Look into Christmases past, present, and future with these crystal ball decorations. You can add these mercury glass balls to a shiny display for even more sparkle and glitz, or incorporate them into a rustic display for an element of elegance.

Snag a Set of Holiday Hand Towels

In this guest room, a gorgeous swag of greenery was hung above the bed on the frame posts for an understated, elegant holiday look. If you have a backyard playhouse, don't forget to deck that out for the holiday, too! Since it's where kids go to play, Rachel Barrett leaned into more imaginative decor with rainbow lights and big wreath with a classic red velvet bow. Make every room feel instantly more cozy and festive by lighting all the candles. Go for a mix of heights and trail some ivy along the base to add in some greenery. Should you be painting your dining room or another room in the house in time for the festive season, choose warm colors and complement them with your tableware or furniture.

Instead of hanging stockings along your mantel, consider hanging them directly on your Christmas tree. Plus, it’ll save you some decorating time—you’ll hang your stockings and adorn your tree in one fell swoop. You can also pile a few bells in a bowl for a quick-and-easy Christmas display. Little details may seem like a waste of energy, but they won’t go unnoticed when paired with other festive décor.

Though your bookshelves may be outfitted with traditional home décor, they still deserve a dose of holiday cheer.

Fill a Bowl With Candles

Keep the color scheme consistent by introducing only shades of three different colors. The bright, colorful beaded garland is a dramatic contrast against a Christmas tree's stark white branches. One of the oldest, most traditional Southern decorating techniques has got to be the old fruit-in-glass-vase technique. From real lemons and limes to fake peaches and apples, you'll find a fruit bowl in nearly every family home across the South.

After blooming, paperwhites last longer when placed in a cool spot out of direct sunlight. Arrange the blooms along with heather, juniper, and moss in a planter and hang it directly on your front door. Stems of pussy willow adds some height to a simple arrangement of pine branches with cones, displayed in an antique blue pickle jar. (Find these online or at thrift stores.) A turquoise ribbon complements the colored jar and the decorative Christmas trees.

This do-it-yourself Christmas decoration is easy to make, yet results in a classy, elegant final product. If you are looking for a way to decorate for Christmas that doesn't involve a wreath, try this colorful way to bring nature inside. Red is perfect for the season, but poinsettias are not the only red plants you can incorporate into your holiday floral arrangements.

But it can certainly make the season feel a lot more ceremonial, so consider snagging some festive plates, bowls, or glasses this holiday season. At the very least, you can treat yourself to a fun holiday mug. “Nothing hits you faster when walking into a home than the smell of the holidays,” Maria Gerlach, lead interior designer at Retro Interiors, says. So stock up on festive candles, snag an essential oil diffuser, or keep a pot of hot cider going on your stove at all times. But adding décor to unexpected places—like your bathroom—can be a great way to make a statement. Plus, these little additions will keep you in the holiday spirit, blessing you with festive cheer when you least expect it.

The winning table formula of family silver + a hit of color + inexpensive grocery store flowers is just as effective now as at any other time of year. Stick florist clay adhesive to the bottom of the compote, and press the cone onto it. Attach a row of green plums (or Key limes) by skewering with a wooden pick and inserting into cone in an upward swirl. Skewer a pineapple (spray-painted gold) with a wooden pick, and insert into top of topiary. Try spray-painting the dried hydrangeas white for an elegant touch. Place that on a piece of florist wire that's been trimmed to a length about ½ inch shorter than the stems.

Everyone has a few strands of lights left over after decorating their front porches, so try using them to spruce up your patio with holiday cheer. Hang the twinkling white lights on a fountain or stone wall in your garden to create a striking winter focal point on your patio or porch. You can also hang lights from an outdoor shed, pool house, or tall fence. Even if it's too cold to entertain outside, you're guests will enjoy the soft, cozy glow through the windows. Readers with traditionally shaped mailboxes can try this festive way to spruce up a driveway for the holidays. Wrap sheer ribbon loosely around a pine garland and drape the garland around the mailbox, securing with a flexible, thin wire or fishing line where necessary.

Chicken wire was originally used on pantry doors to let air circulate around stored root vegetables. Plate racks and hanging shelf units took up less room than freestanding hutches and sideboards. This piece’s graceful arch, curved brackets, and beadboard back are traditional touches; the cubby organizer updates it for today. Machine-milled beadboard took off in Victorian times for kitchens, baths, and work areas. Running the entire height of the walls, as well as up the banquette, it’s still an eye-catching, easy-care surface for a busy dining nook.

Flooring is another area where you want to bring in natural materials. Wooden floors are a very popular choice, especially if they are vintage or original to your home. If you install new hardwood floors, opt for something like distressed pine with plenty of knots and color gradation so they have a more antique look.

Modern Cottage Style How to Get the Look

Think about adding natural materials wherever you can—wooden ceiling beams, natural stone kitchen countertops (such as marble or soapstone), wooden furniture, and so on. Bringing natural elements inside gives us a sense of peace and comfort. Consider dried flowers in vintage vases, a statement olive tree, or pretty branches as decor.

Therefore, we want to do everything we can to make our home feel inviting and cozy. Adding custom-built bookshelves and benches is a great way to add some cozy corners to the home. I recently wrote a post about reading nook ideas for adults, so if you’re interested in that, check out this blog post. Cottages are often filled with soft neutrals and pastels, but bolder hues can also have a place in cottage decorating ideas and color schemes. Bright red walls and trim bring unexpected color to this casual living room. Collected artwork, slipcovered furniture, and a textured woven rug reinforce the cottage charm.

A traditional, vintage house with this architecture will often have a closed floor plan with separate and distinct rooms, while a more modern cottage may open up the floor plan. Overhead fixtures and lamps with stained glass shades are very popular in these kinds of designs. Having a few of them in different patterns brings color and eclectic appeal.

Vintage and Antique Furnishings

Stay true to the traditional charm of the English countryside by including hallmarks like floral fabrics, a garden-inspired palette, and a cozy cottage layout. To achieve this aesthetic, avoid clunky furniture and rich colors and instead opt for pastels and simple designs. Patterns, especially florals, contribute to the picturesque interior that resembles something out of a Virginia Woolf novel. A traditional look for cottages, using happy colors and charming furniture, fosters a bed and breakfast aesthetic that is relaxing and comfortable while being different from the norm. To achieve this aesthetic, look for unique textures, colors, and patterns for your furniture.

Historically many rural cottages were served by heat storage range cookers such as Agas and Rayburns, that would have provided radiant heat for the entire house. Today there's a wide range of sizes, fuel types to choose from, as well as an infinite number of finishes and colours. Make your home look like a cottage from top to bottom by leaving your ceiling beams exposed. “I love to add rustic beams to a bright white ceiling for a look that screams cozy cottage,” Curtis says. Both the modern and the cottage elements are equally as important, and you want a room that feels just right in bringing out that harmony. You like that the style is trending, and want to be able to create an aesthetic that fits in with 2024 just as much as it does classic cottage.

The layout embodies many of our favorite elements of classic Southern Architecture, while the generous five-bay front porch beckons cool evenings sitting in rocking chairs and visiting with neighbors. An exterior of cedar shakes and porch detailing in the Nantucket star design add to the look and feel of this relaxed and spacious cottage. Inspired by small summer cottages built along the East Coast, this plan is adaptable in a variety of climates and locations. This L-shaped cottage gives a lived-in, cozy vibe and places the great room towards the back of the home near the outdoor deck and kitchen. The one-story plan offers a modern approach to a traditional cottage home.

Don't miss our cottage lighting ideas for pretty, practical solutions. Elevated on ball-and-claw feet, an old-school soaker in porcelain-coated cast iron might just be the height of laid-back style. Plum paint, used on this tub’s sides and on the surrounding wainscoting, gives it an updated look that’s right at home with dark-stained wood floors.

There's lots of Marie Kondo-inspired talk about living clutter-free these days, but when it comes to cottage interiors, a little clutter is a good thing. Having bookshelves floor to ceiling in the living room will keep books organised and will mean they're close at hand when you want to curl up with one by the fire. Thought that the curtain pelmet and sink skirt were things of the past? Vanessa Arbuthnott shows how these vintage-style designs can look fresh and stylish in this bathroom using her pretty mix and match fabrics. To stop the look feeling too cutesy, embrace contemporary color combinations, such as the the Dark Hay/ Charcoal colorways of these French Ticking, Herbaceous Border and Dainty Daisy fabrics. The great thing about creating a cottage look is that it can be created on a shoestring using vintage pieces and a bit of imagination.

This aesthetic is all about combining the rustic feel of country style with a modern twist that invigorates your home. In this style, you can combine a variety of colors and patterns to build an eclectic setting that is fun and exciting. Don’t be afraid to have old-fashioned décor mixed with modern accents. A mash-up of a rustic aesthetic with a more modern and fun style, country chic encompasses what a cottage is meant to be.

There’s something inherently cozy about spending a lazy weekend at a cabin, but we believe it’s even better when its inside matches the splendor of the natural landscape. When design features like log walls, ceiling beams, skylights, and fireplaces are used in a cabin's interior design, you can't help but feel utterly relaxed. Here, a designer takes you through five simple steps to get the look (along with some of the key elements defining it). Think colors inspired by the nature, botanical prints and an eclectic mix of handmade and antique wooden furniture.

Twig Christmas Tree Ornament

While grandma and grandpops might prefer a more traditional Christmas color scheme, we prefer something a little more... So, this season we're swapping ruby reds for pastel pinks, pistachios and purples to create a soft scheme. So be experimental this season and have fun mixing old with new, fusing classic and contemporary styles. We love how the original alcove and wall and decorative wall trim has been styled with both classic Christmas decor and more modern accessories in this period home.

Cheer Up Your Entry Way

A year later, we will live an hour away from the empty lot that once cradled our house. I squirmed until my mind adjusted to my new bedrooms, backyard and bathrooms. But through the slow acquisition of new things, this house feels like a warm embrace.

And if you really want to get that fireplace feel, burn a campfire-scented candle while the video rolls. Place ornaments and antlers in a versatile vessel, like an antique dough bowl, anywhere around the house for a small dose of cheer. Bottle trees and a bit of greenery zip-tied to the bamboo headboard shift the guest room into festive mode without much upkeep. Add window wreaths with ribbon to each window of your home, and don't forget the doorway. Make an extra special entry by creating an evergreen border to your front door. For the Wreath, using florist wire, make a ring and then bend the wire back around itself to secure.

Add Symmetry With Perfect Pairs

Spruce up your mantel with a few pieces of charming decor, like this bottlebrush tree delivery via toy car, secured with candy-cane-colored twine. Turn up the holiday magic with gorgeous branches all done up with white lights and glittering berries. If you don’t have a mantel, try a staircase railing (ensconced in garland, of course) for hanging up your stockings.

Atlanta Floral Artist Canaan Marshall chose amaryllis as the hero flower. “I started with this one because I wanted to stage everything else around it,” he says. Using florist wire, attach two pinecones to the florist tape.

We suggest staying away from fabric with glitter – when guests lean back on their chairs, the glitter tends to rub off. This unique Christmas idea is reminiscent of glory days gone but not forgotten. Pay tribute to Donna Summer, Abba, and The Bee Gees by making sure that your Christmas decor keeps the Disco stayin' alive. Hang a disco ball from the ceiling to float it above your Christmas tree. This tip works best with flocked Christmas trees; the mod silver sparkle of a disco ball blends best with nontraditional decor. A flocked tree needs a festive punch, so a run-of-the-mill start doesn't suit it.

Top it with a bow, and you've got a tree worthy of the Disco Queen herself. Set your tablescape early in the season to give you a nice daily reminder to your countdown to Christmas dinner. Layer green and white linens, seasonal candles, red flowers, and small dishes filled with cranberries for a setting that will help your anticipation grow. Low-care (or no-care) plants set the scene while placing a wreath front and center crowns an outdoor area in complementary cheer. Add a garden-friendly centerpiece by dropping paperwhites into a pine needle basket.

Seriously—slice up some fruit, dry it out, and attach it to some string, and you’ll have a striking set of ornaments in no time at all. “There is something special about seeing your name on a stocking and knowing there will be a little surprise in there for you,” Lisa Cini says. And if you don’t want to swap out the stockings you already have, try hanging a personalized charm on each one. “There's something whimsical and minimal about a Charlie Brown that just embraces simplicity in the midst of a holiday that can be overabundant,” Ginger Curtis says.

Add silver brunia, white ranunculus, star of Bethlehem, 'Sahara' roses, eucalyptus pods, succulents, and snowberries to vases and along the mantel. Change up the traditional Christmas color palette of red and green by throwing in pops of blue. The bright blue in the wine glasses and little touches of blueberries in the centerpiece add visual interest and a personal touch to the overall setup. Yup, the neon Christmas decorating trend is here – and it's pretty simple to recreate in your own home.
